Renovation and extension to an apartment house in Massenhausen, Neufahrn.

The historic building also includes an old barn, which is scheduled for demolition. The newly built extension will create 11 apartments; 6 single-floor flats and 5 maisonettes. By referencing it’s urban surroundings the t-shape was created. As a result the perpentdicular volume is prominentaley displayed at the insersection. The concept of the extension takes inspiration from the existing historic building, which has an ornate cladding. A contrast is created by reacting to the additive, decorative elements of the existing structure and re-interpreting them in a subtractive and oppositve manner.
